Cosmetic eyelid surgery (or blepharoplasty) can help restore a more youthful and rested appearance to the eyes.
The procedure will be performed at Norwood Day Surgery’s Adelaide clinic and will involve removing excess skin to correct drooping of the upper lids and excess fat and/or skin to remove the “bags” below your eyes.
Many people in their early to mid-thirties begin to notice a tired appearance around their eyes. This is most commonly attributed to a fullness or puffiness of their eyelids, caused by the accumulation of excess skin and/or fat. This fat is independent of body weight. It is originally under or behind the eye and migrates forward with the aging of the eyelid tissues. This condition can be remedied with cosmetic eyelid surgery. There are other conditions, however, such as allergy, fluid retention and thyroid disease which must be ruled out before surgery because blepharoplasty will not substantially improve these situations.
Ideally candidates for eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty should experience any of the following conditions which can inhibit daily function or simply make looking in the mirror a taxing task.
You will be an ideal candidate for eyelid surgery if you experience:
- Drooping lower eyelids which can pull down on the lower part of the eye
- Puffy upper eyelids which can make you appear haggard
- Excess skin on the lower or upper lids which can inhibit sight significantly
- Fine wrinkles on the lower eyelid which can make you look older than you are
- Dark circles, bags or puffy skin
Most people who receive eyelid surgery are over 30 as this is when the symptoms of wrinkles start to become apparent. This is also usually when the renewal system in the skin begins to slow down which means that your skin may not be repairing as quickly as it’s being damaged. Some individuals also are just born with dark circles or baggy eyes which can all be treated here at Norwood Day Surgery in Adelaide by our skilled surgeons.
